Atonement and Order

The world is disordered because of sin. The restoration of order requires God to work, and ultimately requires atonement. That is the message of Deuteronomy 21. We see how an unsolved murder affects society, how war and family disputes create insecurity, and how a disobedient adult son and the punishment of a notorious criminal affect stability. Most of all we see how these things point us to the cross of Christ.
