Opening the Treasure Chest of Truth
1 CORINTHIANS
Take that treasure chest you brought—the revelation God gave you—and turn with me to 1 Corinthians. Chapter 9 is where we'll land, but we gotta walk through the house a little before we sit down in the living room.
This letter is Paul dealing with a church that had questions, confusion, division, and carnality—that word that only ever describes believers acting like unbelievers. Carnal doesn't describe the lost… it describes the saved who are walking by the flesh instead of by the Spirit.
And church, when you walk in the flesh, you produce the works of the flesh. But when you walk in the Spirit, you produce the life of Jesus.
But you'll never walk in the Spirit if you're not looking to Jesus.
Amen?
And you'll never walk by faith if you're not feeding on the Word—because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.
So Paul starts the whole letter saying,
"You've got Jesus, you've got His Word, you've got His Spirit, you've got what you need… but you're not walking in it."
That's Corinth. And truth is—sometimes that's us.
ROOTED IN CHRIST — THREE ESSENTIAL WORDS
Paul tells them there are three kinds of "Word" we need to be rooted in:
- The Incarnate Word — Jesus Himself.
God clothed in flesh. The Life we couldn't live. The righteousness we didn't earn.
If you don't have Him, you don't have anything. - The Inspired Word — this Book right here.
You can't understand it if you're not born again.
You need the Author living inside to explain the book He wrote. - The Individual Words — The Living Letters — God's people.
Paul told them, you are our epistle.
