Christians are to submit to all types of government 7
Series Jesus' Response to Government
Three general principles:
#1: Every Christian must submit to everything the government requires of him or her, even if it is oppressive, unjust, or against one’s own personal standards and beliefs, as long as what the government requires is not contrary to what God requires in His word
#2: It is much more pleasing to God that we as God’s people maintain His ordained authority structure by submitting to government, no matter how flawed it is, than to rebel against that structure even if it violates His moral standards
#3: From God’s standpoint, regardless of how bad any government is, any government is better than no government at all
Four principles related to civil disobedience:
Principle #1: When God’s people are called by government to unjustly take a human life, they are to disobey that command
Principle #2: When God’s people are called by government to worship another god, they are to disobey that command
Principle #3: When God’s people are called by government to forsake their devotion to God, they are to disobey that command
Principle #4: When God’s people are called by government to silence the gospel, they are to disobey that command
Summary principle: When government tells us to do something God calls us not to do, or tells us not to do something God tells us to do, we have to disobey government
Three responses to any government:
First, we are called by God to universal petition
Why we are to pray for those in government:
#1: Because God saves sinners
#2: Because believers need to live righteously
Second, we are called by God to intellectual transformation
Third, we are called by God to divine
