Gender Roles II

Thesis: Gender Roles and Sexism are not the same thing.

• Men and women are equal, but Paul appeals to God's created order in

establishing gender roles within the church

• Standard is God's economy, not worldly systems

• "Headship" is functional, not essential distinction

• Trinitarian Headship

  • Father, Son, Holy Spirit equal - one God
  • Headship order = Father->Son->Holy Spirit

• Principle - men and women are to bear signs
  that publicly show they are male or female

CONCLUSION: Male headship does NOT equal superiority but of functionality in God established roles. Many women are better or more gifted at functions inside and outside of the church, but God has established roles for each to reflect His own trinitarian headship.
