New Bodies at the Resurrection
Series 1 Corinthians Sermon Series
The sermon explains how believers will receive glorified, imperishable bodies at the resurrection, transformed by God's power from their current decaying, earthly state. Paul answers skeptics by comparing the resurrection to a seed that must die before producing new life—our present bodies are the seed, and the resurrected bodies will be the glorious plant God gives according to His will. Just as different creatures and celestial bodies have distinct forms suited for their environments, our new bodies will be perfectly designed for eternal life in God's presence—incorruptible, powerful, spiritual, and glorious. Paul contrasts the first Adam, who gave us mortal, earthly bodies, with the last Adam, Jesus Christ, who grants life-giving, heavenly ones. As a final encouragement, believers to honor God with their current bodies, to find hope amid physical weakness and decay, and to trust that their future, Spirit-empowered bodies—made in the image of the risen Christ—are already secured by His resurrection and promise.
