Salty saints or sand

It would seem a strange thing that Christ would look at this ragtag bunch of believers that are scattered on the hills of Jerusalem and say to them that they are the salt of the earth.
It would seem more likely that the affluent business men, the leaders of the Roman civil government, or even the religious elders would be the salt of the earth, but no; not to the estimation of the Christ.
To His teaching, it is those who exemplify what the Beatitudes demand, that are the salt of the earth. Not the decision makers but the peace maker…not the earth shakers…but the meek, merciful. Not those who are not highly esteemed among men, but the poor in spirit, the persecuted, the pure in heart…they are the salt of the earth.
