Jesus Is the Christ through Water and Blood
Series 1 John
John will end 1 John with a unique warning not found in any other NT letter in or out of the Bible, "My little children, keep yourselves from idols." Where does this come from? Where are idols mentioned anywhere in 1 John? The answer is everywhere and every time they are mentioned they have a name, "Jesus." False notions about Jesus are idolatry and John deals with one in 1 John 5. Jesus is the Christ. He came through the water and the blood as Jesus Christ, the God-man. God the Son died for your sin and bloodless gospels are idolatry. Moderns may want a bloodless gospel absent notions of sin and judgment. But Jesus Christ commands observance of the Lord's Table that we would remember the horrific yet beautiful sacrifice the God-man made for us.
