The Problem with Leaven
Series Galatians
Last week we talked about the liberty we have in Christ. It isn't a liberty to live any way we want, but a freedom to serve Christ. Paul was amazed that some of the Galatians were giving up this liberty and returning to Jewish law. These people were thinking they were adding something good to the Gospel, but in reality they had left the Gospel. This is why it was so dangerous. In our section for study today, Paul gives an analogy about false doctrine. In this analogy, he shows how a little leaven, added to the bread dough, will leaven the whole lump. This is an excellent study which every one of us should heed. There are two groups, true and false believers, a warning, and two responses to the warning. I wish that every Christian could hear and understand this section with its implications.
