“Does Not My Word Do Good?”
Series 1 Peter
"Does Not My Word Do Good?"
Living as Tested People in a Hostile World
Key Truths: Micah 2:6–7; Deuteronomy 4:1–8; Joshua 11:15; Isaiah 8:11–17; 1 Peter 3:8–17; Ezekiel 11:16; Hosea 8:12; Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)
Aim
To help us hear, heed, honor, and hold forth God's living Word—believing that His Word does good to those who walk uprightly, and learning to sanctify the Lord in our hearts amid pressure and pushback.
- A Line in the Sand (Micah 2:6–7)
"Do not prattle," you say to those who prophesy… "Is the Spirit of the LORD restricted? … Do not My words do good to him who walks uprightly?" (Mic. 2:6–7)
• The complaint: God's people called the prophet's preaching "prattle"—like a dripping faucet.
• God's answer: My words do good—they are benefit, blessing, life—to those who walk uprightly (i.e., trust Me and align to My ways).
• Insight: You can be positionally righteous and still not be walking uprightly. Upright walking = faith in action—listening and obeying.
Bottom line: When we resist the Word, we feel it as irritation. When we trust the Word, we know it as impartation.
- The Word Is Life to Those Who Listen (Deut. 4:1–2, 5–8)
"Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes… that you may live…" (Deut. 4:1)
"Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples…" (Deut. 4:6)
• Pattern of faith: Listen → Live → Walk → Witness.
• Public result: Obedience becomes visible wisdom; the nations notice and ask, "Where did that understanding come from?" (cf. 1 Pet. 3:15).
• Practice: God's Word doesn't just inform; it forms us and announces Jesus through us.
- How God Hands Truth Down (Josh. 11:15)
