Christ's Ordinance for Church Government

Is there a particular form of governemnt established by Christ in His Word for churches in all times and in all eras, or has Christ left us a latitude in these matters so that we may employ a number of forms of polity (ie government) in His Church as seems most fitting and expedient to us at a given time and in a given culture.
