Self Audit
Series Psalms
Our word 'audit' is used chiefly in connection with checking financial accounts. We might call this 'Psalm of David' a self audit.
I. Self examination is not to be autonomous (verses 1-3)
2 Cor 10.12
A. Jehovah's standard. (Lk 18.11-14).
B. Jehovah's examination. David prays (v.2)(Mal 3.1-4, 1 Thess 4.3, 2 Cor 13.5, v 1b., verse 3).
II. Self examination is to be thorough (verses 4-8)
A. Separation from people intent on wickedness. (1) Not Sitting (v 4a)(Psalm 1.1-2). (2) Not going (v 4b). (3) Not gathering (v 5). Luke 23.50-51,
B. Sin mortified (v 6).
C. Sounding forth God's praise (v. 7)
D. The sanctuary of God our first love (verse 8)(Genesis 28.17).
III. Self examination is not to promote self righteousness (verses 9-11)
(Acts 4.8b-12).
A. True believers rest in divine preservation.(Ps 26.9-10)(1 Sam 25.29)(1Sa 25:29)(Mat 13:30)(1 Pe 1.3-5).
B. True believers rest in divine redemption (verse 11)(1 Corinthians 6.19-20).
Conclusion: David concludes (v12)
