War Against the Flesh
Series Communion
In our precommunion sermon, drawing from 1 Peter 4:1–2, we see a profound call to spiritual warfare centred on self-denial, defence against the flesh, and a distinct Christian identity marked by obedience to God's will rather than worldly lusts. As Christ suffered in the flesh, believers are urged to arm themselves with the same mind—rejecting sin not out of legalism but out of gratitude and union with Christ, who bore our sins that we might live to God's glory. The message emphasises that true faith is evidenced not by an impossible standard of perfection but by a growing desire to obey God, a hunger for righteousness, and a willingness to endure rejection in this fallen world for Christ's sake. The sermon warns against self-justification, calls for rigorous self-examination, and affirms that the Lord's Supper is not a reward for the righteous but a Heavenly invitation for sinners to come by faith in Christ, those who have been renewed by grace.
