He Has Redeemed Jerusalem

Isaiah gives a beautiful prophecy here in chapter 52 that directly talks about the coming redemption of the nation of Israel from their 70 years of exile in Babylon. Israel's redemption from Babylon hasn't happened yet. It's going to happen, but it hasn't. He's telling them what God is going to do in the near future. But also pay attention to this, how this prophecy is also a prophecy of a greater redemption from a greater Babylon, and how the people of God play an important role in that redemption. Ultimately, this is the fullest meaning of the text. So if you're looking for an outline today, as we engage with this text, we will focus first on what Isaiah's prophecy meant for his immediate audience, the Israelites, and then focus on what Isaiah's prophecy means for the new covenant believers.
