59 The Great, White Throne of Glory

The great white throne is the climax of human history because here is where the veil hiding the glory of Christ is removed. Here is the fulfillment of Phil. 2:10-11 "at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Why does John use the terms Great and White to describe the throne? The throne takes the character of Him who sits on the throne.

Christ is great because:

1. He is most sublime
2. He is sovereign
3. He is the final judge

Christ is white which means:

1. He is righteous
2. He is holy
3. He is merciful
