Look at the Birds
Series Worry and It's Cure
Our Lord's command (Matthew 6:25a). While Jesus does not forbid thinking about tomorrow and diligent efforts to provide for one's self, He does forbid worry over the provision of our earthly necessities and comforts.
Our Lord's reasons (vv. 25b-26). First, Jesus argues that worry is needless (v. 25b). If God provides for the greater (our lives), why will He not provide for the lesser (our food and clothing). Second, Jesus argues that worry is senseless (vv. 25b-26). If God provides for the lesser creatures (the birds), why will He not provide for greater creatures. Believers have a superior relationship to God and a superior value before God.
