Some Thoughts on Charlie Kirk

What happened?

Charlie Kirk, a popular conservative voice and outspoken Christian commentator, was fatally shot in the neck by an assassin's rifle during a campus speaking event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.

He had the ear of the youth.

What made Charlie Kirk so unique was the fact that he had, like almost none other, the ear of the youth. He was a favorite especially of Generation Z as he frequently made appearances for open dialogue and debate on college campuses around the country.

A life short-lived, but well-lived.

Charlie Kirk died at the young age of 31. He joins the company of many others in the hall of faith who also died at very young ages:

  • Patrick Hamilton — 24
  • William Borden (“no regrets”) — 25
  • David Brainerd — 29
  • Robert Murray McCheyne — 29
  • Jim Elliot — 29
  • Nate Saint (pilot) — 32
  • Henry Martyn — 31

My exhortation to you would be to stop wasting your God-given gift of time but to redeem the time and make your life count for eternity.

A word of caution.

“And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.” — Acts 6:10

These words were said of Stephen moments before he was murdered—making him the first Christian martyr. The problem was the enemy could not cope with the wisdom of Stephen and the truth that he preached. So their only recourse was to kill him, like they did to our Saviour before him.

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” — John 8:44

This has always been Satan’s tactic throughout the centuries. What we saw the other day with Charlie Kirk was no different. Here was someone whose wisdom and truth could not be challenged in debate, and when they cannot defeat someone at that level, they resort to killing—because they cannot resist wisdom.

However, from the ashes of Stephen, there arose another—Paul the Apostle. There will always be those that pick up and take the place of those that are fallen. The temptation will be to fight fire with fire, to resort to the same methods that the world uses, thereby gradually becoming the very thing we once despised. But if we fight this fight, we must do so by using the most powerful weapon of all—truth. Specifically, God’s truth. And prayer, specifically Holy Spirit prayer.

BE CAREFUL. Don't allow social media to feed emotions that are wrong, carnal, and sinful. The devil will use this situation to his advantage on both sides. God's people are to operate on an entirely different level from everyone else. Don't fall for it!

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.” — 2 Corinthians 10:4
