The Will of God
Often when we discuss how to discern "the will of God", we are talking about some vocational decision or personal life choice. However, in the Scriptures, "the will of God" almost always refers to His Word, His statutes, His commands. So to know or do "the will of God" for a New Testament believer was primarily about knowing, believing, and living in obedience to His Word and Gospel.
Mark 3:35 Jesus said, "For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”
Rom 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Eph 6:5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man.
Col 4:12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a slave of Christ Jesus, greets you, always struggling on your behalf in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God.
1 Thess 4:3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor...
1 Thess 5:16 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Hebrews 10:36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.
1 Peter 4:1 Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.
1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
In the name of Jesus and by the Spirit's power, go and do the will of God today!
