Too Many Obstacles
Numbers 13:28 – … [T]he cities are walled, and very great…
Will they make it to the Promised Land? Nope, this crew never did. They followed the ten foolish spies instead of the two faithful ones (Joshua and Caleb). Some Christians are the same way. As soon as they come across an obstacle they stop, whine, and turn tail. To them the opposition is too strong and the obstacles too great.
The implication of obstacles is subtle. Many times, they have no innate evil quality they are just things that are in the way. Kind of like the “cares of this world” (Mark 4:19) that arise and choke out the word of God.
While the implication of obstacles may be subtle, the interference of obstacles is abundantly clear. Their walls are there to keep you out and make you quit. The obstacles in your life will keep you from being where you need to be in your walk with God if you let them.
In order to overcome the obstacles in our lives we must identify the obstacles and see them for what they really are. They are not greater and more powerful than our God. Anything worthwhile will take some blood, sweat, and tears! Our Lord didn’t quit when He faced obstacles, He “went a little further” (Matt. 26:39).
In World War I a French general was asked, “Which side will win the war?” He replied, “The side that keeps advancing.” Are you going to let secondary things like obstacles keep you from claiming ground the Lord has promised you?
