Great! More tips...
1. The one (and probably only) thing of value in the diease model is that it recognizes alcohol really is a different substance in the body of an alcoholic. The impairment happens to all, but the euphoria and sense of connection to the divine simply does not happen to non-alcoholics. The biochemistry has even been worked out. And just generally, addicts are different and hardwired such that total abstinence from all mood altering drugs is needed, even when they’re spiritually solid. But understanding that fact should be the end of seeing an illness or health problem.
2. One way addicts “steal” is to get eight different church members to give them the money to pay-off the same electric bill, etc.
3. Some of them do not like or identify with the chaos and dishonesty, and the drug culture, etc. Many were only driven to it by the substance and hate that fact. It’s easy to think of them as “that type of person”. They may be just like you and me otherwise. Professional people, etc. Even religious. The urgency and need drive some of them to places and behaviors they could never have imagined theyd ever see.
